God Will Surely Make a Way - Canvassing story part 6
Testimony of a Student Canvasser
I’m truly grateful that God gave me the opportunity to join the canvassing program during this summer break. We began our mission in early May in Bogor, and by early June, we continued canvassing in Bandung because the books we previously brought had all been sold out.
There are countless ways God showed His goodness throughout this journey—far too many to share them all. But I would like to tell you one experience that deeply touched me, and I hope it can encourage and strengthen your faith as well.
Back in Bogor, we usually went out to canvass from 8 AM until 4 PM in business areas filled with office buildings. Many of these places had security guards, and most of the time, we weren’t allowed to go in and offer books.
One day, I met a kind gardener who was very friendly to me. Although he didn’t buy a book, he encouraged me and told me I could still try entering those places. I decided to follow his suggestion. When I entered the first place, praise God, someone bought a book.
Then I walked to another building that had a gate and a guard post. Strangely enough, the same gardener was there talking to the security guard. As I approached, I heard him mentioning me. And to my surprise, he told me to go right in—and the security guard just nodded silently without stopping me. I knew at that moment: it was God’s hand making a way.
I entered and started canvassing the people inside. Eventually, I walked into a small eatery and approached a man who was cooking. Even though he was busy, he still listened to me and looked at the books. While we were talking, another man came and said, “You’re not supposed to sell things here without the security’s permission.”
I calmly replied, “Thank you, Sir. But I already received permission from the security at the entrance.” He didn’t seem to hear me and walked away, still disagreeing. I felt slightly upset, but I was thankful that the man I was speaking with remained kind and even bought the most expensive book I carried.
Afterward, he asked me the same thing: whether I had permission. I gave the same answer, and he looked puzzled—as if wondering how someone like me had actually been allowed inside. I smiled quietly, knowing it was truly God who had opened the door.
When I left, the same gardener and security guard were standing there, smiling and kindly letting me exit. That simple moment reminded me of how God can use anyone—even a gardener—to fulfill His purpose. That was just one of many amazing testimonies from my canvassing experience.
To be honest, I’m not someone who’s naturally confident. I often felt shy, hesitant, and uncertain. But God still chose to help and bless me.
By the end of my canvassing journey—just over a month—I had made nearly 10 million rupiah in book sales. That was beyond what I ever imagined, God knows that I need funds for my college, and He provides with His miraculous way!
Through this program, I learned to be patient and persistent, even when results weren’t immediately visible. I also learned how to be a blessing to others, to interact with different personalities, and to reflect on how I could become a better person. Canvassing has been a powerful blessing—not only spiritually, but also mentally, physically, and financially. God is always faithful. When we’re willing to take a step with Him, He will surely make a way.
