Everything I Own Is Not Really Mine

Since my leader left and it will take quite some time for them to return, I have been entrusted to take over his position as the temporary leader at our school. This is something new and not easy at all at least for me, but I am very grateful because I have colleague who help me in leading. In this experience, I have learned many new things, and as a result, I feel truly blessed.

In this opportunity, I have gained an understanding of 'ownership'. By living here, I have a very decent, beautiful, and comfortable place to stay. I have healthy food that is always available on the dining table every day. I have an abundance of clean water, a vehicle I can use, money for daily needs, a washing machine for my dirty clothes, and a water heater for bathing (since we live in a mountainous area, it’s quite cold), and many other things that I cannot mention one by one.

I have many facilities here that benefit me physically, mentally, and spiritually. But do you know? Even though I have the freedom to enjoy all these facilities, I use them very carefully because, in reality, everything I have is not truly mine. For example, when I make an expense, I have to carefully consider whether the purchase is really needed for the school need or it just my own pleasure. Another example is in the use of a vehicle. Do I use it solely for my personal benefit? Of course not, the main purpose of the vehicle is for the needs of this school. Making decisions with the freedom I have now is something I think about deeply because I understand that none of this belongs to me. I have a responsibility for every decision I make regarding 'what I own' right now.

This leads me to think about how I should behave towards every blessing that God has personally entrusted to me. Whatever it may be, because it is clear that everything, I have is not truly mine, even my own body belongs to God. And how we handle the blessings that God has entrusted to us will also be something we are held accountable for. Am I managing my finances well according to His will? Will the education I pursue become a blessing for many people or just for my own personal gain? In the work I do, am I striving to be a blessing to my coworkers? And many other things need to be examined.

Psalm 24:1
"The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

1 Timothy 6:7
"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s."

My friends, let us examine how we respond to the blessings that He has entrusted to us. Let us ask for wisdom from Him to have the right attitude according to God's will toward every blessing He has entrusted to us.

Blessings,
