Where I Least Expected Him - Canvassing Story part 1

Canvassing is a ministry that has shaped me deeply— building my character, strengthening me mentally and spiritually. I used to be just a participant, but this time, God called me to lead. I felt completely unworthy and doubted my ability to guide others. But through the encouragement of godly friends and the strength I found in His Word, I surrendered and allowed God to use me.

When I started searching for a location, I aimed for a strategic spot in the city center. I found one, confirmed everything, and informed the team that we would stay there. But just two days before the program began, the owner suddenly canceled our reservation. I was shocked. Discouraged. I asked God, “Where will I bring them now? What should I do?”

That’s when my parents offered their home. It wasn’t ideal, it was far from the city, but I had no other option. I was grateful they were willing to help. Then, something unexpected happened.

On the second day of the program, my mom came to me and said she wanted to join the outreach along with my youngest sibling. I thought she was joking. But she got ready and came with us. To my amazement, my mom enjoyed the experience. She even had a divine appointment and prayed with someone. My little sibling joined in too, praying throughout the day. My heart was full.

That’s when I realized: God had a reason for everything.

If we had stayed in the city, my mom might never have joined the program. But because plans changed, not only were strangers reached but so was someone I love deeply.

God taught me three important lessons through this experience:

1. His detours have purpose. What feels like a setback may actually be His setup for something greater. Romans 8:28 (NKJV) “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

2. Ministry begins at home. We often focus on the mission field “out there,” forgetting the souls God wants to reach right beside us. 1 Timothy 3:4-5 (NKJV) “One who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)”

3. Leadership means surrender. I didn’t feel ready to lead but God wasn’t asking for perfection, just obedience. 2 Corinthians 12:9“And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. ’Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Every evening, my family would wait eagerly to hear testimonies from the day. I saw how the fire of ministry was not only burning in the team, but it had also touched my own home.

So, if you’re facing unexpected changes or feel unqualified for what God is asking of you, take heart. God is still in control. He’s leading you not just for others’ sake but to reach and grow you, too. Will you let Him write your story even when it looks different than you imagined? He’s not just preparing a mission He’s preparing you for something eternal.

Blessings,

The Graceful Journey
